Both the American fantasy drama television series House of the Dragon and the Game of Thrones (2011–2019) television series are based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books. Martin and Ryan J. Condal developed the prequel series for HBO, based in part on Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood. The House of the Dragon showrunners are Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The dramatisation of the Targaryen struggle of succession, often known as the "Dance of the Dragons," which took place two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, details the rise and fall of House Targaryen.
In October 2019, House of the Dragon acquired a straight-to-series order. Casting will commence in July 2020, and in the UK, main filming will begin in April 2021. The first episode of the series is set to air on August 21, 2022. Ten episodes will make up the first season.

Storyline:
